Hummus with Toasted Sesame (Vegan, Gluten-free)

Hummus is a very nutritious and important food for vegans and vegetarians, as it is rich in protein. Also, it is also perfect as a pre-workout snack due to its high iron content. Unlike other recipes, this time I tried to make my own version of hummus with toasted sesame seeds and it is absolutely divine. Sesame is also a great protein source as well, and the zinc content in it helps you develop healthy hair and skins. I toasted the sesame seeds before making the hummus because it gives the hummus an extra smoked flavors and the aroma is just so nice. I really can’t help myself from stop eating this batch of hummus as this is just so addictive! It’s perfect to be eaten on its own, with baked sweet potato fries, kale salads, mixed greens salads, bread and even with brown rice or quinoa. So what are you waiting for?

Ingredients:

Juice from 1 lemon
1 red capsicum
2 cloves garlic
1/2 cup sesame
2 Tbsp sun-dried tomatoes
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp paprika
4 cups cooked chickpeas (water reserved)

Directions:

  1. Preheat a non-stick pan.
  2. After the pan was hot, turn to medium heat and pour the sesame seeds on the pan
  3. Keep stirring it to prevent the sesame seeds from getting burnt, until they become golden brown and fragrant
  4. Remove the seeds from the pan and allow them to be cooled
  5. Add all the ingredients into a high speed blender (I used vitamix)
  6. Pour the reserved chickpea water until the water level covers the chickpeas
  7. Blend the mixture until smooth and you can add more water to achieve your desired consistency
  8. Enjoy! 😉
